When You Feel Like Quitting
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense… we have only to persevere to conquer.”
Winston Churchill
Every one of us has a unique calling from God. A divine destiny that was given to us before we were born. But the road to fulfilling our calling is anything but easy.
We can tend to believe that our calling should be effortless. We think, “The Promised Land should be a cakewalk, right?” No. Not if we look at what the Bible says.
From the moment that the Israelites took their first step into the Promised Land, it was all-out war.
It was actually the wilderness that was the easy place. The wilderness was the place where all of their food was provided, where their clothing didn’t wear out, where there was little danger, and where God provided water out of the rocks.
But possessing the Promise was very different. It was before embarking on the quest to possess the Promised Land that God told Joshua, “Be strong and very courageous. Do not be afraid.”
Joshua was never given that encouragement in the wilderness… Why? Because he didn’t need it. But he would need it in the Promised Land. And so will you.
Too many would rather spend their lives in bondage (Egypt) or wandering in complacency and disobedience (The Wilderness) because neither requires courage.
Don’t fall prey to the mistaken idea that walking in the Promise is the calm, quiet, comfortable option. It’s quite the opposite.
And the way we win is simple… don’t give up. The only way to fail is to quit.
The Bible has a lot to say about enduring to the end. Why? Because, as one missionary put it, “If we don’t quit, we win.”
To quote Churchill once more, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
So, on the days when you feel like quitting, remember that if you’re in the fight of your life, you’re probably on the way to the Promise.
